The Adventure of Mastery – Attaining New Heights

Challenge courses can be seen as the ultimate group or individual challenge. Challenge courses are vertical obstacle courses that make extensive use of safety equipment to keep participants from danger. Working with peoples' natura discomfort with heights, but using safety equipment to reduce real risk, participants are faced with a sense of "perceived" risk. When groups or individuals participate in a challenge course there is a great opportunity to learn about risk taking, perceived limits, taking risks or performing under pressure, how to give or receive support from others in taking "appropriate" risk, and how working collaboratively with others can help an individual achieve far more then they thought they could accomplish.

The end result? An understanding of pre-conceived selflimitations and the confidence to exceed them. And oh yes, one heck of a lot of fun!!

Our years of experience at True North Alliance – and the experience of count less other organizat ions – has demonstrated that outdoor challenge experiences are easily and immediately transferable to everyday situations. Especially at work, confidence is the cornerstone of creativity and
success.

The Power of Story

To accomplish desired outcomes, emphasis in ‘experiential learning’ must be on the learning. Whether on the high ropes or climbing a rock face, the real adventure happens in our minds… and hearts.

True North Alliance believes that individuals and organizations are only as confident and successful as the stories they tell about themselves. Based upon the model of The Hero’s Journey, participants are encouraged to share their dreams, fears and discoveries as experiences unfold. Old habits and limiting patterns are identified and ceremonially discarded. The story is re-written. Positive changes are identified and firm commitments to action are made.
